Hondshalstermeer

In 1980 an artificial lake has been developed between the villages Wagenborgen and Nieuwolda. This lake called "Hondshalstermeer" has been constructed to obtain a better water management and to gain extra area for nature development. The lake has been situated at the lowest point in the area where the soil consists of mainly peat and clay.

 

Environmental Quality

The ´Waterschap Hunze en Aa´s´, a local water management organisation, wants to know more about the physical and environmental conditions of the lake. This to investigate the possibilities for an upgrade of the lakes environmental and nature function and also to get information about the (bio)chemical situation.
To obtain this information Medusa surveyed the lake with a radiometric detector to map the bed composition, depth, roughness of the bed (shells and rubble) and mud-thicknesses. Also some samples where taken to get chemical and environmental information of the sediments.
