Sediment mapping

Rijkswaterstaat is investigating the possibility to permit ebb and flood movement on a small scale in the Lauwersmeer lake. This could create opportunity's for an efficient drainage of water out of the provincies of Groningen and Friesland as well as for the development of more extensive nature in the Lauwersmeer area.

Mapping mud and grain size

In order to make a prediction on the future developments in the Lauwersmeer, it is necessary to understand the present-day morphology in the area. Therefore information is needed about the mud content and grainsize on the shores and in the channels in the area. Medusa Explorations has performed a survey in the Lauwersmeer area to make map the mud content, grainsize and the organic content of the sediment.
