Peat Pit
A fomer peat pit has been filled up by human activity. To determine the extend of the fomer peat pit, Medusa has been asked to use a ground-penetrating radar system in the field. The goal is not only to determine the extend of the pit, but also the presence of not-natural material should be determined.
Better sampling
With this information, a more detailed investigation can be planned more efficient. The survey revealed that a lot of objects are present in the former pit, which are partly of natural origin. Particularly in the boulderclay deposits, which are present in this area, a lot of stones and boulders can be found. The radar reflections are partly induced by not-natural materials, such as rubbish and rubble. On the maps the concentrations of objects are clearly visible. It seems that the objects from natural source are spread out more or less random, and the not-natural objects are grouped. The maximum depth at which the objects have been detected is approximately 4 meters below the surface.
