Risk of damaging
To prevent damage to cables and pipes during ground works, a new law was introduced that regulates subsurface activities. Network managers now have to registrate the location of their property. When digging starts, place the builder has to check for the latest digital information available in the database with results from all the input from the network managers. Now they can decide whether there is risk of damaging anything while digging.
Ground Penetrating Radar
Medusa maps the subsurface with the use of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to locate cables and pipes prior to road construction works. GPR sends out a signal that is reflected by the present objects which is then received back, thus enabling the creation of a map of the underground infrastructure.
In Doorn (the Netherlands) is a road that needs renovation. Because that will include a lot of digging, Medusa has done research using GPR. That way, they created a map with all the infrastructure on it, so the builders know exactly what to look out for and do not damage anything. The new road can now be finished without any inconvenient delays!
